18-January-2024. The KATY Trail!

I arrived yesterday in Dallas as I will be dog sitting for the next 5 days for Nellie. I got to overlap with Nellie's owners last night and they showed me around their home and how to care for Nellie while they are away. They left super early this morning for a 6 AM flight and Nellie and I are now buddies for the next few days. Nellie's owners told me that there is an old rail trail near here and it was beautiful out today (60° and sunny!) so I couldn't resist checking it out

The rail was named after the Missouri – Kansas - Texas line abbreviated. M.K.T. and then shortened again to just 'Katy'. And it's spelled just like my friend Katy Jacques spells her name!

The rail line was active until the early 1980s, fell into disrepair, and then was revived as a 3.5 mile bike and pedestrian pathway through the city. What a gem! There are restaurants and bars sprouting up along the sides of the Katy Trail and it reminds me a lot of the beltway around Atlanta.

i'd also like you to meet my new friend Nellie! She is a 9 year old mix – part mastiff, lab, and pitbull. She is super sweet and very mellow. She likes to go out for 2 walks a day and is a super slow walker .... lots to sniff.
