Check it out - Maine has installed a “Welcome Home” sign for me! Well …. at least I’m thinking they are personally welcoming me back home.

Friday, June 14, 2024 marked the reentry back to Maine. I got my daily mile in by walking around the Back Cove (overlooking Portland) and then picked up Randy and we headed 2 hours further north to his family’s cottage in Turkey Cove (near Port Clyde). He invited a dozen friends and we once again had a fabulous weekend there. Everyone chips in with appetizers and food and we enjoyed a hike, pickleball, late night card games, and some singing around the fireplace. Somehow word got out about my birthday 🤷🏼♀️ and everyone spoiled me with flowers, champagne (in such a cute bottle!), fun pink gifts and drinks and snacks and an incredibly rich homemade dark chocolate cake that had the most amazing colored fire candles I’ve ever seen. You must check out the close-up pic of the candles below – I couldn’t believe all the different flame colors!!! Thanks to all for making it such a fun birthday week! 💗
Although the travel part of the Adventure is over, accommodations will remain a challenge as I won’t be renting a place until I can get a seasonal rental in September. So I’m still looking for house sitting and pet sitting opportunities. After returning from Turkey Cove, I reported for duty as a house sitter at 9 AM on Monday morning in Durham, NH. Durham is a university town (home to UNH and more than 15,000 students during the school year). The homeowner had used Trusted Housesitters (the site through which I get my pet sitting gigs) when she needed care for her dog, and although her dog passed away last year, she continues to use Trusted Housesitters when she goes away as she has extensive perennials and plantings all around her house which need lots of watering during the hot summer months. Figures the week I’m here we are having an unusual heat wave with temperatures near 100° for several days in a row. I sure am getting my steps in by manually moving sprinklers all around the hilly property!
