Today I ventured 90 minutes north to Mammoth Cave Kentucky to check out another National Park.

Here are some cool facts I learned today:
Mammoth cave is the longest cave network in the world at 426 miles. I only traversed 2 miles today and 540 steps.
There were lots of funny names for different areas in the cave including Fat mans misery (a very narrow passage), Tall mans agony (you had to squat to walk forward because the ceiling was so low) and the Bottomless Pit.
Mammoth dome is a huge 171 foot tall opening that then has 155 stairs heading back up from it. Because there is a sandstone layer that separates the cave from the surface 200 feet above, no water drips through so there are no stalag tights or stalagmites like in other caves.
Amazing to think there are 400 miles of tunnels down there!
