So I took a southern route on my Adventure to get away from the cold New England weather and woke up this morning to find that it is 10° colder here in Houston than it is back in Scarborough Maine!
Yesterday I drove from Baton Rouge through the Bayous of Louisiana westward into Texas. The temperature dropped from the mid 40s to the high 20s along my 4+ hour ride. The closer I got to Houston the colder it got and it became more perilous when it was 27° and misting/sleeting. The roads got slippery and radio reported numerous accidents and closed roads and highways.
I arrived to see a tiny bit of snow on Barbara and Ray's roof and their wind chime continuously clanged with the sound of the cold wind blowing. We had intended on going to the George Bush Presidential Library today but everything around here is closed: schools are closed, government offices are closed, roads are closed .... and sadly the George Bush presidential library is also closed because of icy road conditions.
I used some time today to catch up on email and laundry and trip planning and cleaned out my car and finally figured out how to download an audiobook so that I can listen to a book while driving. I have friends who rave about how much they look forward to road trips as they use that time to enjoy books and I'm going to give it a try. Maybe I will actually finish some book club books by using my drive time to read/listen! 😂
I also taught Barbara and Ray how to play 5 Crowns ... and they crushed me! We ended the day with a fabulous dinner at a steak house - yum!
WILD idea: sometimes you aren't able to do what you had planned to do and are forced to pivot. Make the most of it by doing something else. I can't wait to listen to an audiobook tomorrow!

When you get to Albuquerque, take a right! (actually, left has it treasures and oooh..so does straight ahead🙃) ..I have a great contact for you in Gallup, NM so if you head out that way give me a shout. Also, Maria received a big floor puzzle of the US so we are following you along your travels(you are currently being played by Sir Topham Hat in his car). I am thoroughly enjoying your photos and writings. . .thanks for taking us along! I love the WILD concept and shall apply it when possible. .safe journey..ing!
