Oh my - how did it get to be December? Today I'm in Columbia, the capital of South Carolina. this morning I did a self guided walking tour starting at the capital:

Columbia is a cute city and has a main street with lots of shops, restaurants, a couple of museums and the University of South Carolina campus. it's surprisingly small for a state capital but I guess that's par for the course – the biggest cities aren't always state capitals.
In the afternoon I went to the art museum thinking that the featured exhibition was about Lee Alexander McQueen's fashion (he was chief designer at Givenchy from 1996–2001 and then founded his own brand label), but it turned out it was actually a photography exhibit about his life, behind-the-scenes documentary images and runway shows taken over a 13 year span. I find photography so much more interesting than some funky clothes on mannequins!
The museum also had a self guided tour of selected pieces in a variety of different galleries – was fun to get a little insight on some of the artifacts and hear the stories behind them and why the curator chose to include them in the museum collection.
I have decided that a great benefit of my Adventure is that I will have lots of fun and interesting stories to tell at cocktail parties when I return!

What a wonderful adventure you're having. Thanks for including all of us in your travels.
